Adding Additional Domains to Your Bluehost Account
If you’re like me you’ve got a million ideas floating around in your head and don’t want to stop at creating only one website; but rather, you’re interested in creating many websites. This article was put together to show you how to add additional domains to your Bluehost account. These additional domains are called Addon Domains, and Bluehost offers an unlimited amount for all accounts except for the Starter and Basic plans.
If you’re interested in learning more about what an Addon Domain is and how it works Bluehost has a good article in their Help Content.
The first thing you’ll need to do is log into your account where you purchased the domain name from and point the Name Servers at Bluehost. To do this you will remove the current name servers and replace them with the following:
After that is completed head over to Bluehost and sign into your account.
Assigning Addon Domains
Step 1. After you’re logged into your account you will need to access your cPanel
Step 2. Here you’ll scroll down and click on Domain Manager
Step 3. Under the shortcuts section you’ll click on Assign a domain to your cPanel account
Step 4. At this point you will be prompted to Assign a Domain.
1. Enter the domain you are looking to add to your hosting account into the appropriate field
2. Wait for Bluehost to verify ownership of the domain name
3. Select Addon Domain from the options available in Step 3
4. Select create a new directory and make sure the field is populated correctly with your Addon Domain
Don’t worry when you see that you’re also creating a sub-domain. Per Bluehost’s Help Content Documentation mentioned earlier in this article, when you create an Addon Domain three things will happen resulting in the following routes (URLs) being true:
Step 5: Click Assign This Domain and check the Summary on the following page
You’ll notice that this may take anywhere from 5 to 15 minutes to complete
At this point you’re all set! You new domain should now be added to your Bluehost account and you can begin creating your new website.
